A mixed-use development years in the making is moving forward in James City County.
County officials approved Westwood Park in July, a project planned to include 139 homes and approximately 24,000 square feet of retail space near Eastern State Hospital. From a commercial real estate perspective, the retail component is particularly worth following. New residential development creates additional households within a trade area, potentially supporting demand for neighborhood retail, restaurants and services.
The combination of residential and commercial space also reflects a development pattern NRD will be watching throughout the Virginia Peninsula: projects that place housing and neighborhood-serving commercial uses within the same development.
